The Cedar Springs Varsity Girls Basketball Team was busy this past week playing three games.
On Monday, February 11, the Lady Red Hawks picked up an OK White Conference victory at Ottawa Hills. Behind a feisty team defense that totaled 20 steals and a strong performance by sophomore Arianna Rau, the team secured a 41-35 victory. Rau notched the first double-double of her young career, scoring 13 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. Senior Brighton Miller followed Rau in scoring with 10 points.
The ladies picked up their second victory of the week as they traveled to Cornerstone University to play NorthPointe Christian. After trailing 21-22 at halftime, the Lady Red Hawks used pressure defense that led to a couple of easy baskets to outscore Northpoint 15-5 in the third quarter to take a 9 point lead into the final quarter. The final score was 53-45.
Miller led the Red Hawks in scoring with 20 points. Rau garnered her second consecutive double-double, scoring 10 points and bringing down 13 rebounds. Sophomore Kaelyn Colclasure scored 10 points as well.
On Friday, February 15, league-leading Northview visited Cedar Springs. Playing solid defense all evening, the game remained within striking distance for the Red Hawks, but the offense could not get going and the team came up short by a score of 29-43. Sophomore Maggie Prins led the scoring for the Red Hawks with 7 points.
The Red Hawks are back in action this week Tuesday, February 19 at Kent City, at home for senior night on Thursday, February 21, against FH Central, and on the road at Greenville on Friday, February 22.
