Two compete in Michigan’s indoor state track meet

Brandon Sawade

Corey Bowers

Brandon Sawade and Corey Bowers put in time and training over this winter and competed in the Michigan Indoor Track Series (MITS). Both met state qualifying standards to compete in the Michigan Indoor Track Series State Meet, which took place at Saginaw Valley State University on February 24 and February 25.

Senior Brandon Sawade met state qualifying standards for boys’ pole vault with a height of 13’3” at Grand Valley State University on January 13. This 2018 trip to the state meet was Brandon’s second time competing at the indoor state meet. Brandon is a member of Landon Athletics where he has been practicing this dynamic and complex sport that requires a high level of athleticism and skill. Brandon placed an impressive 9th at the indoor state meet with a jump of 13’3” on February 24.

Freshman Corey Bowers qualified to run in the state meet in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. Corey ran the 1600-meter run as participants are only able to compete in one individual event per MITS rules.  Coming into the race, Corey was one of only two freshmen in the state to qualify and was seeded 25th of 41 runners. Corey finished with a personal record and time of 4:29.83 and placed 17th overall, gaining eight spots.

Congratulations to both Brandon and Corey and best of luck to them in their 2018 outdoor track season for Cedar Springs High School.
