WMP at Meijer State games/“Southwest Greights”

West Michigan Pursuit entered 18 grapplers to wrestle this weekend and 16 placed in the top 4. Out of 62 matches, WMP claimed 45 victories. 

Several wrestlers and their families traveled to Sturgis for the Southwest Greights tournament: 63 lb Quinten Cassiday, 9/10 age group; 46 lb Brody Compau, 7/8 age group; 75 lb Ayden McClurken, 9/10 age group; 67 lb Luke Egan, 9/10 age group and 52 lb Blake Werkema, 7/8 age group. Cassiday, Compau and Werkema all finished 2nd. Egan and McClurken went undefeated and claimed Championship Titles. 

The rest of the team travelled to Davenport University for the Meijer State Games. 67 lb Evan Andrews, 9/10 age group finished 4th. 70 lb Xavier Carpentier, 11/12 age group; 52 lb Tatianna Castillo, 7/8 age group; 55 lb Kaleb Pautke, 7/8 age group and 67 lb Kamden Witte, 9/10 age group finished 3rd. 75 lb Harper Cheng, 9/10 age group finished 2nd. Champions of the day are 85 lb Blake Peasley, 9/10 age group, 80 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 9/10 age group; 58 lb Aaiden Vasquez, 7/8 age group; 70 lb Josh Vasquez, 11/12 age group and 59 lb Kellen Weckesser, 9/10 age group.

“As we get closer to Regionals, their confidence grows each week and we are starting to peak at the right time. These kids are learning to focus on their own in preparation of their matches,” said head Coach Dave Andrus.
