“War of the Worlds” at the Kent Theatre

Oct. 20,21: The Cedar Springs Community Players will provide a reenactment of Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds” October 20 at 7:30 p.m. and October 21 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Kent Theatre in downtown Cedar Springs. The radio production first aired October 30, 1938 and caused a nation-wide panic as radio listeners never realized that what they were listening to was part of a radio production aimed at taking listeners away from the popular Edgar Bergen and Charley McCarthy radio show on another station.  They, instead, believed the eye witness accounts and newscasters they were hearing describing an invasion of Martians was underway. Millions of Americans took to the streets, armed with guns ready to protect their loved ones from the marauding aliens. Nine Community Players will be taking the stage in various roles reenacting the production.  Tickets are available at the door and sell for $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for student 18 years of age and under. #42p
