5k night-time race course challenges runners to escape zombies

Runners from near and far are once again invited to attend The Zombie Dash, Grand Rapids’ most beloved race for zombie enthusiasts and thrill-seekers at 6:30 pm on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

The five kilometer (3.1 miles) “quarantined” course requires runners to survive the new Apocalypse Avenue on Front Street and dodge zombies looking to grab life strips.  Runners will race against darkness to survive the zombie apocalypse, hoping to keep 3 of the flag football life strips for time bonuses until the finish.

The race will start and finish in Sixth Street Bridge Park this year, located at 647 Monroe NW, in downtown Grand Rapids. Runners and zombies must register online by 7 pm, Thursday, Oct. 20.

Registration is $45. Children 10 and under run free of charge with registered parent runner; group and armed forces discounts are available. Those who would like to offer zombie services are invited to do so free of charge, but must register beforehand online.

The Zombie Dash is professionally chip-timed and awards will be presented to the fastest finishers.

Go to TheZombieDash.com for registration information, event schedule, and other race information. Visit www.facebook.com/TheZombieDash to join the conversation. A portion of the event proceeds go to the Michigan Blood’s Bone Marrow Be The Match Registry.
