Volleyball teams suffers losses to Northview, Lowell

Cedar Springs Varsity Volleyball had a busy competition week beginning with a home Conference match against the Northview Wildcats Tuesday evening October 4, resulting in a 0-3 loss: 12-25, 12-25 and 12-25.

Senior middle hitter Brooke Morris led in kills in the match with 4 and put up one block while Sydney Plummer added 3 kills. Libero Kaitlyn Coons tallied 12 digs.

On Thursday evening, October 6, the Lady Red Hawks hosted Lowell leading to a 0-3 conference loss:15-25, 18-25 and 24-26.

Sydney Plummer led the Red Hawks with 13 kills, 9 digs and 2 blocks.  Kaitlyn Coons held the defense with 19 digs, 25 serve receives, 8 service points and 2 aces. Setter Ali Sparling added 13 assists, 5 kills and 2 blocks.

The ladies completed the week competing at the Morley Stanwood Invite Saturday where they played a solid day falling in the Semi-finals against Onaway. The team went 2-2-1 on the day, which began with a split against Onaway 25-18 and 13-25, followed by a loss to McBain 22-25 and 19-25.  The Lady Red Hawks easily handled White Cloud 25-13 and 25-9 before defeating Tri County 25-22, 25-23.

The ladies competed in the tournament semi finals for their final match suffering a tough loss to Onaway 21-25, 25-16 and 8-15. Junior Outside hitter Sydney Plummer led the team on the day with 41 kills, 6 blocks, 23 digs, 23 service points and 6 aces followed by Middle Hitter Brooke Morris with 15 kills, 12 blocks, 12 service points, 9 digs and 4 aces.

Freshman Lauren Kostus owned the service line putting up 37 service points and 11 aces along with 11 kills. Leading the defense was Libero Kaitlyn Coons with 49 digs. Setter Ali Sparling had a solid day adding 50 assists, 8 kills, 4 blocks and 14 digs while Sienna Wight added 41 assists, 4 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces.

Baylie VanDyke tallied 15 kills and 8 blocks while Defensive Specialist Lindsey Lehman had 14 digs.

The Lady Red Hawks (5-15-2) are at home Tuesday night (10/11) against rival Greenville and then travel to Ottawa Hills Thursday, games begin at 6:30pm.
