Rockford man dies in crash

A 76-year-old Rockford man died Tuesday in an accident in Courtland Township.

According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, William Leroy Billings was westbound on 10 Mile Road, about 2:20 p.m., February 16, when he lost control of the silver 2006 Mitsubishi Galant he was driving. The car spun around and struck a power pole in the 5600 block of 10 Mile Rd NE. The impact was severe enough that it snapped the wooden pole, and power was out in the area for several hours.

Courtland Fire and Rescue and Rockford Ambulance both assisted at the scene. The accident is still under investigation.
