Bicyclist killed in collision

A Newaygo man died last week when his bicycle was struck by a car in Big Prairie Township.

According to the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department, a 37-year-old woman from White Cloud was traveling eastbound on 36th Street near Beech Avenue, about 5:49 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, when she struck the bicyclist in the middle of the eastbound lane.

The bicyclist, identified as Donald Husted, 54, of Newaygo, was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police said that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors for the driver of the automobile. Deputies are awaiting toxicology results for Mr. Husted.
