Clear skies and beautiful weather was the perfect setting for the annual Red Flannel 5K on September 26. The 102 participants began the race at 9 am. Brandon Smith was the first to finish the race just 17 minutes later. Smith, a local teacher at Beach Elementary, received the trophy for Male Overall winner for a second year in a row.
Cecilia Dubravec received the Female Overall trophy, finishing in just under 21 minutes.
Medals were awarded to male and female participants in their top three finishing positions in various age groups from 12 and under to 60 and over. The team “Things 1” received the 1st place team trophy, 2nd place went to the team “Things 2,” and the 3rd place team trophy went to team “Variety Pack.”
Race participants enjoyed bottled water during the race and refreshments following the race thanks to the generosity of local businesses. In addition to a goody bag, participants also had a good chance to receive a door prize. There were more than 20 local businesses that generously provided gift cards or merchandise for the goody bags and door prizes.
The Kid’s Fun Run began at 9:45 am with approximately 10 participants. All participants received a certificate, medal, and goody bag, too.
