The Cedar Springs Red Hawks varsity football team claimed another victory, this time against the Belding Redskins, on Friday, September 11. The boys kept on the offensive, resulting in a final score of 42-7. With another win under the team’s belt, they now have a non-conference record of 2-1 for this 2015 season.

Offensively junior Quarterback Collin Alvesteffer scored three touchdowns for the Red Hawks; and junior Dylan Ostrom-Howell and seniors Da’Marcus Barnett and Cameron Umphrey also made it to the end zone. Following these touchdowns, Isaiah MacDonald, Taylor VanDyke, and Cameron Umphrey made two-point conversions.

On defense, the Hawks managed to hold their own. With their quick reflexes, the team had an impenetrable defensive line that Belding only managed to break once in the game, leading to a touchdown for their side.

“We played well, and executed to a high level in all three phases of the game. It obviously helped that Collin Alvesteffer returned from injury,” said Red Hawk Coach Gus Kapolka.

With their rising performance, make sure you don’t miss the Red Hawks next match up as they go head-to-head against Grand Rapids Catholic Central. The kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. at home, at Red Hawk Stadium. The atmosphere is sure to be electrified, as it is the high school’s annual homecoming football game, as well as Mlive.com’s Game of the Week. Come out and cheer on your on your Red Hawks!
