In the three years since it was launched, the Rogue River Community Theatre Company of Rockford has provided family-friendly entertainment to more than 1,000 people in myriad productions touching on everything from tragedy to comedy.

This legacy of entertainment has not gone unnoticed; its summer production of The Princess and the Pea, which takes the stage this week, is already sold out for opening night on Wednesday.

Tickets are still available for Thursday, July 16 and Friday July 17. The classic story by Hans Christian Andersen will be performed at North Rockford Middle School, 397 E. Division St. in Rockford. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

“The buzz about the play has really taken off; this is the first time in our three years that an opening night performance has sold out,’’ said Matt Erste, RRCTC Board chairman.

“The play takes a classic and beloved story and brings it to life with a talented group of young performers from the Rockford area,’’ Erste said. “It’s a good mid-summer diversion and offers to be a lot of fun for everyone involved.’’

Fun and commitment to community are touchstones of the theatre group, which formed in the summer 2012 as the successor of Rogue River Theatre, launched in the 1990s.
