Wednesday July 16 Event Schedule

10 am to 2 pm:  Free Senior Health Fair

at Meadowlark Retirement Village, 65 Ida Red Ave. Graceful living, healthy options and access to health vendors, health screens and demos.

3 pm to 4 pm: Library time – Have a Whole Herd of Fun!

at Sparta Township Library, 80 North Union. Story time, craft & snack.

5 pm to 8 pm:   Scouts Honor Kids Carnival

Troop #704 in Rogers Park. Pizza Fun for kids age 3-10! 5 Tickets for $1, 1 Ticket per game

5 pm: Carnival Rides Open in the Village Parking Lot!

Unlimited Ride Armband: 5pm to close for $17.00.

5 pm to 7 pm: Community Pig Roast

At Sparta Civic Center. $7.00 (ages 10 and up) $4.00 (10 & under)

5 pm to 8 pm:  Historic Research Center OpenHouse

5 pm to 8 pm:  Historic Horse Drawn Carriage Rides

71 N. Union (across from the Sparta Library). Take a trip down memory lane on a horse drawn carriage ride with a commentated tour of Historic Sparta featured landmarks. $5 per person, 3 and under FREE

5:30 to 6pm: Martial Arts Demo

in Roger’s Park. Fun for the whole family!  Come watch as students, age 4 and up, demonstrate self defense, weaponry and karate techniques.

5:30 pm to 7:30 pm: Sparta Co-op Preschool Open House

at Sparta Co-op Preschool, behind Sparta Civic Center. Meet our teachers and see the benefits of a cooperative preschool!

6 pm: Opening and Coronation Ceremony

In Rogers Park. Including Sparta Police Department Officer of the Year,Sparta Fire Department, Firefighter of the Year. Introduction of the 2014 Parade Grand Marshals. 8th Annual Young Johnny Appleseed and Miss Apple Blossom Coronation Ceremony (Preregistered 5th Grade Finalists Only)

6:30 pm:  Concert in the Park

in Rogers Park. Live Band: Kris Hitchcock and Small Town Son featuring country music. Bring lawn chairs for the free concert.

At Intermission:  Barnyard Dance. 

in Roger’s Park Come one, come all, join the fun!

7:30 pm: “Double Yellow” HOT AIR BALLOON Launch

in Balyeat Field. Come and watch the beautiful “Double Yellow” lift off for your viewing pleasure.

An old fashioned penny, kids carnival for children age 3-10. 5 tickets for $1. One ticket per game.

at Larson Law/Freeland Chiropractic, 200 E. Division. Learn more about the free, family festival August 9th, 2014 in Roger’s Park. Bring the kids for a free temporary knot work apple tattoo.

9am -7pm: Art in Sparta Competition and Exhibit (formerly the Visual Arts Competition)

at 13 Mile Rd. & Division. Discover historic Sparta memorabilia.

10 am to 4 pm: Railroad Depot Open House

400 N. Union. Come and tour Sparta’s 115 year old Depot, Caboose and Rail Cars. Fantastic replica model railroad in the Box Car.

11am-4pm: Historic Research Center Open House

71 N Union (across from the Sparta Library). Featuring Town & Country Days past memorabilia

11 am: Kid’s Parade

N. Union St. to Balyeat Field. Decorate bikes, wagons, strollers, etc. Helmets required for bikes, scooters, inline skates. Line up at Alma / N. Union. Popcorn & drinks served in Balyeat Field after the parade.

11 am: YMCA Youth Fitness Challenge in Balyeat Field

Fitness challenges like jump rope, standing long jump, hurdles etc…Prizes for the kids plus enter to win a FREE 1 Month YMCA membership!

11 am – 2pm: Painting Paper Weights for Wildflowers

In Balyeat Field. Paint a rock paper weight or try your hand at the bean bag toss. Donations benefit Old Orchard prairie at Sparta High School.

8 am: 24th Annual Run/Walk Thru Sparta

Start and finish in Balyeat Field. A fast, flat & exciting 5K(3.1 Mile) course through Sparta’s neighborhood paved streets and rural roads! Register online at goracego.com. Race morning registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Proceeds benefit Sparta Town & Country Days and Sparta Sports Boosters.

8:40 am: Children’s Fun Run (FREE Event)

NEW Start / Finish in Balyeat Field. 12 years and younger. You can even Run for Rides! Ages 12 and under. Register online at goracego.com or race morning 6:30-7:45 am.

8 am to 9 pm: Men’s Softball Tournament

1 pm: 3rd Annual ThingamaBOG (Mud Bogs)

at the Sparta Airport, 9100 Vinton NW. West Michigan Mud Runs will bring this FAMILY FUN event back to Sparta! $7 Adult Admission, Kids 4-12 – $5, Kids 3 and under – Free. Entrance on Vinton south of 11 Mile Rd. Concessions available. Check out our progressive style track as we prepare to do some Muddin’! You won’t want to miss this…..trucks gettin’ dirty and slingin’ mud like you wouldn’t believe!

6 pm: A Night of Worship and Praise

in Roger’s Park. An evening of uplifting contemporary Christian music!

8 pm to 10 pm: Sky Lanterns

on the Sparta Middle School front lawn. $6 each or 2 for $10, Proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

Sky Lantern release at 10 pm. Bring your own lighter!

10 pm: Sky Lantern RELEASE!

10:15 pm: FIREWORKS

Fireworks launched from Ridgeview. Enter at 12 Mile ONLY.

VIP Spectator parking is available at the High School for a $5 donation per car.

Pre-fireworks festivities: Music, and Bounce House included with parking donation.
