Red Flannel Festival Scholarship Pageant Meeting

May 22: Attention young women who will be juniors in the fall! The Red Flannel Festival Pageant informational meeting will be held Thursday, May 22 at 2:30 pm at the CSHS Auditorium. All young women living in the Cedar Springs School district are welcome to attend! Also, all Red Flannel Queen and Court members since 1939 are being honored at this year’s Pageant! 3rd Annual Prayer for Farmers

May 24: Local pastors from several area churches will come together with area farmers Saturday, May 24th at 10 am for a non denominational time of prayer and thanksgiving for our upcoming growing season. Any and all are welcome to attend as we ask God to bless our farms, farmers and households this year. Service will be held at Mamrelund Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 4085 Lutheran Church Rd., Kent City. Memorial Cemetery Walk

May 25: The Cedar Springs Historical Society is holding its 14th annual Memorial Cemetery Walk on Sunday, May 25th at 2 pm. This year we will honor the following representative veterans of all wars; War of 1812, Henry Ralph Phelps; Civil War, Daniel Dove; Spanish American War, Custer Borst; World War I, John Manbeck; World War II, Richard Arnold; Korea, Douglas Hamel; Vietnam, Kenneth Heaton. Biographical and historical information will be presented at each grave site. The Glen Hill Post of the American Legion honor guard will assist in the presentation. Meet at the museum in Morley Park at 2 pm. Transportation will be provided to Elmwood Cemetery and back to the museum for refreshments. If there are severe weather warnings we will cancel the event. In the event of rain we will do the presentations at the museum. #20,21p

 

“God’s Not Dead” at the Kent Theatre

May 27,28: En Gedi will be sponsoring the nationally acclaimed family movie “God’s Not Dead” at the Kent Theatre in downtown Cedar Springs On Tuesday, May 27 and Wednesday, May 28. The first 100 people in the door each night will be FREE! Those after that will pay only $3 per person. Movie starts at 6 pm and is a G-Rated film. #21p

 

Sign Ups for Rocket Cheer Camp

May 27:  Sign ups for Rocket Cheer Camp and Flag and Rocket Cheer Season are being held every Tuesday until June 10th from 6 to 7 pm at the Shaner Ave. Ball Field. Rocket Cheer camp is Saturday, June 21st from 9 am to noon at Cedar Springs Middle School for grades Kindergarten thru 8th grand. Flag Cheer – Ages K thru 2 nd grade. Season is the month of July. Greenville Garden Club Meeting

May 28: Compost is the best form of organic matter to add to your soil. It is a balance of micronutrients using such things as grass clippings, garden waste. And kitchen scraps. Speaker Juliette Cowell will explain what to avoid and what to use, and the difference between a hot pile and a cold pile. Container gardens or large plots alike will flourish with natural composting. Wednesday, May 28 at 7 pm at the Greenville Community Center, 900 Kent Rd. #21

 

Dinner at the Legion

June 2: American Legion, 80 Main St. Cedar Springs, is hosting a pork chop dinner on Monday, June 2nd, from 5 – 7 pm. Included will be mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, veggies, salad, dessert and drinks. The cost is $9 for adults, children (15 and younger) $4.50. Come and enjoy home cooking. Auditions for August Play 

June 2,3: Call for auditions for Cedar Springs Community Player’s August Production: “Seek Immediate Medical Attention,”  June 2 & 3, 2014 at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Synopsis: A lovesick receptionist, a doctor with nagging migraines, a sexy physician’s assistant with an itch that can’t be scratched.  There’s almost nothing that can’t be cured with modern medicine and a little therapy, but sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.  Written and directed by local playwright – David Schmuker.  Needed are 5-8 adult men, 4-5 adult women, 1 teen boy and 1 teen girl.  Evening rehearsals start the week of June 16th. Teddy Bear Clinic

Vacation Bible School @ Solon Center Wesleyan Church

June 8: Hey kids! Come for “Jus’ Float My Boat” at Solon Center Wesleyan Church beginning Sunday, June 8th from 6:30 – 8 PM. It’s family Night with a gigantic Noah’s Ark bounce house and a hot dog roast for the whole family. VBS continues through Thursday, June 12th where you’ll make new friends, sing great songs, learn all about Noah’s journey with God in the ark and have hands on with the animals. “Jus’ Float My Boat” is for children 4 years old through the 5th grade. Sand Lake High School Alumni Banquet

June 14: The Annual Sand Lake High School Alumni Banquet will be held on June 14 at the Sand Lake Lutheran Church in Sand Lake. Social hour starts at 5 pm with dinner at 6 pm.
