State police warn of telephone scam

Troopers from The Michigan State Police, Mt. Pleasant Post, were notified of a telephone scam where citizens have received telephone calls where the caller identified themselves as drug agents. The caller notified the resident that there are drug agents with an arrest warrant on their way to their house to arrest them on drug charges. The caller mentioned fines, as much as $100,000. Caller ID indicated that the calls are originating, or are given the appearance of originating, out of the state of Texas. It appeared that the caller was trying to scam the citizen out of money.

Law Enforcement will not call and ask for money. An Internet search of the telephone number listed many similar bogus calls. If you receive similar calls, HANG UP. Do not give out personal information, credit card information, etc.
