Mr. Cleland “Nick” Nichols, age 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, September 3, 2013. He was born in Howard City to Vernon and Arlie (Rogers) Nichols. He married Neva Purdy on March 2, 1940 and she preceded him in 2006. He was a lifelong farmer and a Navy veteran of WWII. Nick was also a member of Sand Lake United Methodist Church and Gideon’s International. He is survived by his children; Leland (Carlin) Nichols of Kingman, Arizona, Donna (Russell) Rubingh of Fairfield, California, Yvonne (Fred) Clark of Edmore, Karen (John) Smith of Sand Lake; 10 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Charles (Laura) Purdy of White Cloud; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a friend closer than a brother, Albert Abel. Nick was preceded in death by his parents; wife Neva; brother, Roger (Ruth) Nichols. The funeral service was held at 11 am on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Sand Lake United Methodist Church, 65 W. Maple St., Sand Lake, Michigan. The visitation was held from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford. The burial will take place at Crandall Cemetery in Sand Lake. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Gideon’s International or Sand Lake United Methodist Church.
