Dave Roesler

LANSING, MICH. Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue is pleased to announce the promotion of Insp. Dave Roesler to captain and commander of the Sixth District. Roesler replaces Capt. Gary Nix who recently retired from the department.

As district commander, Roesler is responsible for overseeing the delivery of uniformed MSP services to 14 counties in west Michigan. Uniformed services include traffic patrols, criminal investigations, emergency services and staffing for task forces and special investigative units. Prior to his promotion, Roesler served as assistant commander of the Sixth District.

Roesler enlisted with the department in 1986, graduating as a member of the 100th Trooper Recruit School. During his 27-year career with the department, Roesler has served in positions at the Ionia, Detroit, Niles, St. Joseph and Bridgman posts, as well as a member of the Underwater Recovery Unit. He also served as commander of the Hart and Grand Haven posts. Roesler has held the ranks of trooper, sergeant, first lieutenant and inspector. Prior to joining the department, Roesler worked for the Muskegon Police Department.

Roesler has a bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State University and is a graduate of the 207th session of the FBI National Police Academy in Quantico, Va. Roesler is originally from Montague and currently resides in Whitehall with his wife, Nanci. They have three children.
