Police investigate theft of car batteries

The Howard City Police are investigating the theft of 20 car batteries in M46 and Maple Hill Road area June 7-8.

Police said that suspects used a tool to cut the battery cables from parked vehicles and equipment and then removed the batteries. Howard City Police Chief Steve DeWitt said that all the cars they stole batteries from were unlocked, and many of them were in one parking lot of a local business. Tractors and a wood chipper were also targeted.

Police asked that if someone you know suddenly has a large quantity of batteries or if you notice they are being sold for scrap, please contact the Howard City Police Department at 231-937-4311.
