The Cedar Springs High School softball program expressed a need for new dugouts for the 2013 season and the community responded by stepping up to the plate with a home run!
The existing dugouts were over 25 years old and have been repaired numerous times. The equipment shed once used for storage was slowly falling apart due to the weather and mice.
At the beginning of the spring softball season it was proposed to the school, local businesses and families to help with the need for new dugouts. An idea of sponsorship was instituted with three different levels to contribute too based on individual preferences. The three levels were gold, silver and bronze based on a contribution amount.
Over a four week period the core fundraising team was able to raise enough money in cash and material donations for this task. With these gracious donations from the community, this was able to move forward at a very fast pace. This project was also able to leverage the existing dugouts by moving them to the south softball field and the construction of the new dugouts then proceeded on the north softball field, all before the season ended.
There are two signs hanging along the right field foul line, to be seen by everyone entering the facility, in honor of our very generous donors to this project. We now have two new beautiful dugouts with equipment storage built into the home side dugout and this could not have been possible without the wonderful contributions from our local businesses and families.
We would like to thank everyone who helped make this a dream a reality for the girls, their school and the coaches. A special thanks to Wolfe Construction, High Grade Materials, White Creek Lumber, the guys who helped with the move of the existing dugouts to the south field, the volunteers who helped with the pouring and smoothing of the concrete, the CSHS wood shop class for building the new helmet and bat racks and to everyone else who helped make this construction process happen.
Below is a list of the many companies and people who helped contribute to the new softball dugouts, which are in no particular order. Please note that there were also some anonymous donors who did not want their name on the signs, but we would like to acknowledge them as well for their support. Thank you for all the generous support!
