A Tyrone Township man was sentenced Monday for filing a false police report related to a child abduction.

Eugene Rose pled guilty to the offense last month.

Rose reported to police in early September 2012 that a man had tried to abduct his two-year-old son from the yard, while Rose worked in the garage. He reported to police that he had beaten the man with a piece of wood to get his son back.

Police said Rose reportedly made up the story to avoid going door-to-door witnessing with his wife. He told her that he had to be in court on the day they were scheduled to go witnessing.

Rose was sentenced to 30 days house arrest and four years probation.
