Crash sends one to hospital, another to jail

A Stanton man was seriously injured Friday evening, March 1, when he ran a stop sign in Nelson Township and was hit by another vehicle.

According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, Harrison Chase Crawford, 20, of Stanton, was driving a 1991 Lexus northbound on Myers Lake Road, shortly after 7 p.m., when he ran the stop sign at 18 Mile Road. Donald Smith, 53, of Cedar Springs, was traveling west on 18 Mile in his Ford F250 and hit Crawford’s vehicle as he passed through the intersection.

Crawford was transported to Butterworth Hospital by Rockford Ambulance with numerous injuries. Smith was uninjured but was lodged in the Kent County jail on an alcohol offense. His passenger, Brian Lynn Johnson, 53, of Cedar Springs, suffered some soreness but was not transported to the hospital.

Cedar Springs Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
