The Department of Public Works Director for the Village of Lakeview was arrested Monday, January 14, and charged with embezzlement by a public official.
Village officials reportedly noticed discrepancies in the DPW fleet’s vehicle fuel program a few months ago. In December of 2012, the Village of Lakeview requested the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post begin an investigation into the theft of the fuel. That led to the arrest of DPW Director Gary Jensen, 61.
The month long investigation revealed that Jensen was fueling his personal vehicle without permission or reimbursement. The estimated theft is believed to be in excess of $2,000 worth of fuel.
He was arraigned in Stanton’s 64-B District Court on Tuesday, January 15. He is scheduled for a pre-trial on Friday and a preliminary examination on Jan. 22.
