Irene Rymal

Irene Rymal, 96, of Cedar Springs (formerly of Adrian), passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Metron of Cedar Springs. Irene was born June 28, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Stanley and Stella (Zuchowicz) Racki. Irene married her husband, Kenneth, in 1939, and they lived in Detroit before moving to Adrian to help in the family restaurant business. Irene was a waitress for many years. She and Ken met at the restaurant in Detroit where she served him lunch. Ken passed away in 1990, and four years later Irene moved to Cedar Springs to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a member of the Adrian Presbyterian Church and the Cedar Springs Golden Agers with whom she enjoyed many great times. Irene was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved a good time and never met anyone with whom she couldn’t have a conversation. A big sports fan, she followed the Detroit Tigers and Lions, but especially liked Michigan State basketball and football. She was an excellent seamstress and a great cook. Surviving are her daughter Janis (Ivan) Opperman of Rockford; grandchildren, Kristin (Anthony) Perez, Kara (Kevin) Morris; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Kaelynn, Molly, Tia, Haley, and Ivan Perez, Kalina and Brenden Morris; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sisters, Mary Racki, Virgie (Joe) Wartilko, and Marge (Jim) Hock; brothers, John Racki and Casimir (Bea) Racki; sister-in-law, Gladys Uhl; brothers-in-law, Charles (Roberta) Rymal, Elmer (Hazel) Rymal, Cal (Bert) Rymal, and Ace (Lillian) Rymal; nephews, Don (Anne) Rymal and Paul Wartilko. Special thanks to the staff at Metron of Cedar Springs for the loving care given to Irene for the past three and a half years. She used to say, “If you have to be in a place like this, this is the place to be. Everyone is so nice.” The family will greet friends Saturday at 11:00 am until time of service at 12 noon at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment Maple Grove Cemetery, Hudson, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Life Enrichment Fund at Metron of Cedar Springs.
