Mrs. Velma Becker, age 91, of Coral, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. She was raised in Courtland Township and attended a one-room school house. Velma worked for several families and helped them at their home. She married Carl L. Becker. He marched off to war during WWII; and with two children, she worked at Gibson’s making gliders and picked milk weeds for parachutes. When Carl was in the military, she purchased a home. When he returned home from the war, they had only one payment that was left to make on the house. Velma became a stay-at-home wife and mother for a while, and then went back to work. She was a strong-willed, independent, hard-working lady who just didn’t ask for help. Velma was also very loving, caring, and nurturing, and she would not let loved ones go for outside care when she was there to help. Velma enjoyed fishing and would bait her own hooks and clean her fish. She liked to camp and crochet. Her most enjoyable times were spent with her family. Her favorite dog, “Sassy” was always there. She is survived by her children, Roger and Judy Becker, Ray Becker, Diane and Ed Kaman, and Doug and Sharon Becker; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Stella White, Mrs. Lorraine Morris,; brother, James (June) Roberts; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Becker, and Ralph Gould; extended family, Laura (Ed) Smith, Bill Becker, Mrs. Martha Parker; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her sisters, Evelyn Drake, Irma Becker, and Maxine Gould. The service for Mrs. Becker was held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home with Pastor Bert Boes officiating. Interment in Courtland Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Immanuel Baptist Church, 16028 Isabella, Coral, MI 49322. Relatives and friends met with the family on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
