Bicyclist hit by car

A Howard City bicyclist was seriously injured Sunday when he struck by a vehicle.

According to the Howard City Police, Allen Russell, 48, of Howard City, was riding his bike westbound on M-46 near Maple Hill Road, in Reynolds Township, about 3:44 p.m. Sunday, November 4, when the accident occurred.

Witnesses told police that Russell was riding his bike westbound, when he lost control of the bike and suddenly veered left into traffic and was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by a 22-year-old male from Jackson, Michigan.

Aeromed was put on standby but the victim was transported by Montcalm County EMS instead. M-46 was shut down for approximately 45 minutes until the scene was cleared and the investigation completed.

The Howard City Police Department was assisted by the Howard City Fire Department and the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department.
