Boys and girls cross country teams repeat as regional champs

Girls run to fourth consecutive regional title

This past Saturday, October 27, the Cedar Springs girls cross country team traveled to Benzie High school to compete in the Division 2 Regional Championship. Coming off being runner-ups in the OK Bronze conference, the girls were looking to win their fourth consecutive regional title. The girls did not disappoint, scoring 54 points to claim the title, 14 points better than Sparta.

Leading the way for the Red Hawks were regional champion Kenzie Weiler, with a time of 17:33. Senior Katie Weiler was 3rd, with a time of 18:00, followed by fellow senior Sommer Vandyke, who was 15th with a time of 19:30. Junior Maddie Pekrul was 19th, with a time of 19:52, followed by junior Michaela Burnett, with a time of 19:59, placing 22nd. Junior Caitlin McClurken and Senior Christina Dean place 23rd and 24th, with times of 20:05 and 20:06.

The girls team will now travel to MIS Speedway, in Jackson, to compete in the Divison 2 State Finals this coming Saturday.

Boys win second straight regional title

Mora breaks school record

This past Saturday, October 27, the boys cross country team traveled to Benzie High school to compete in the Division 2 Regional

Championship. Coming off being crowned the OK Bronze Conference Champs, the boys were looking to repeat their regional title from last year. The boys team did just that, cruising to another regional crown by scoring 47 points, 55 points better than 2nd place Gaylord.

Leading the way for the Red Hawks, as regional champ and setting a new school record, was Connor Mora, running a 14:54! Sophomore Austin Sargent placed 4th, with a time 15:50 followed by senior Justin Harthorn who ran a 16:16 placing 8th. Senior Alex Bray was 15th, with a time of 16:26, while freshmen Cameron Umphrey placed 19th, with a time of 16:42. Rounding out the top 7 were senior Ethan Menefee, who placed 21st (16:49.6) and sophomore Justin Jones, who was 22nd (16:49.9).

The boys team will again travel to MIS Speedway on Saturday to compete on the Division 2 state finals where they were 4th last year.
