It’s salmon season

The heat of the salmon run is on! Several species of this prized sportfish have started their upstream migrations to spawn and are available in high numbers in many locations.

The next couple weeks will be an ideal time to target these fish, with Atlantic and Pink salmon prevalent in the St. Marys River area and Chinook and coho readily available throughout the Great Lakes, especially on the west side of the state. Check out the most popular ports, including Manistee, Pere Marquette and St. Joseph.

Don’t miss your chance to catch some of the best table fare Michigan has to offer! To learn more about fishing for salmon in Michigan, including bait/tackle techniques and locations to try out, check out the DNR’s Michigan Fish & How to Catch Them webpage.
