JV Red Hawks trounce Spartans

The Red Hawk JV football team hosted Sparta on Wednesday, August 29. Head coach David Bowers led the Red Hawks to victory, defeating the Spartans 42-0. It was a great overall team effort.

Things started out a little rough for Cedar when they fumbled the ball on their first possession and gave it up to Sparta. Sparta took over and had little success. They were forced to punt and the Red Hawks returned the punt for a touchdown and 2-point conversion, taking an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. They never looked back.

The Red Hawks had a busy second quarter, with two touchdowns by Quarterback Kaden Myers, a 54-yard run for a touchdown by MavRick Cotten, and a fumble recovery by our defense. Cedar dominated every aspect of the football game leading 30-0 at the half.

Going into the second half, the Red Hawk defense didn’t give Sparta any breaks. Offense stayed strong and Ethan Cooper scored a touchdown in the third quarter, while Zachary Wamser added to the scoreboard in the fourth.

“It is always great to defeat Sparta, but a shutout is just fantastic!” said Coach Bowers. “Coach Hoffman had a great defensive game plan and, when you force the other team to punt on nearly every possession, it gives you the opportunity to put up a lot of points!”

The Freshmen played again on Thursday, September 6th at Wayland High School at 4:30. JV played Otsego At Wayland, right after the freshmen game.

On Thursday, September 13, both the freshman and JV will be home against Zeeland West.
