If the residents of the City of Cedar Springs want to own bragging rights to contributing the most money to the library building fund, they better get on the stick because Solon Township just left them in the dust.
The Library fundraising committee put out the challenge earlier this summer when tax bills went out to both communities. As of last week, city residents had donated $500 in the drive, while Solon Township residents had donated $750!
Library fundraising chair Vicky Babcock urges residents of both communities to think about giving something—no matter how small. “Do you realize that if each household in Solon donated one dollar to the kitty, it would amount to nearly $1,500.00 towards our library goal? And Cedar Springs would not be far behind at one dollar per household,” she wrote in a recent newsletter to supporters. “Please join me in making that donation today if at all possible. Our library needs you, your time, your support, and your monetary input. Cedar Springs Public Library gives so very much to our Community.”
Donations can be made online at http://cedarsprings.llcoop.org/. You can also drop off or mail them to the library at 43 W. Cherry St.
If you are not a city or Solon resident, you can still donate. Just ask for your donation to be put toward the city, Solon, or other.
This fundraising challenge is part of the larger matching grant challenge the library has going on through the end of the year. Late last year, an anonymous donor challenged the library to raise $50,000 toward the building fund for a new library, and they would match what they raise. So far, they have raised approximately $33,000, so need another $17,000 by December 31.
