Come celebrate Cedar Springs next Saturday

Community Celebration Day is set for  Saturday, August 11

Imagine the aroma of meat on the grill, the popping of kettle corn, music playing, water splashing, children laughing, and sidewalks lined with great deals up and down Main Street…Well, you no longer have to imagine it, because it’s really happening!

The Cedar Springs Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to come out and enjoy the first ever Cedar Springs Community Celebration Day on August 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be activities on Main Street sidewalks from Muskegon to Maple Street. Look for sidewalk sales, artists, musicians, face painters, a dunk tank, great food, farmers market and flea market vendors, local demonstrations and more! You’ll find both downtown and surrounding area merchants, and non-profit groups. There will be a Rocket football signup table; another group will have a table to raise funds for the high school football “pink game” to fight breast cancer; the fire department will be doing a car wash to raise money to restore the antique fire truck and standing by to cool folks off with a spray down; and organizers are lining up some community figures to take a turn in the dunk tank.

It’s food, fun and some great buys. Something for the whole family!

The Chamber put the event together as a way to bring recognition and celebrate businesses in Cedar Springs. “Main Street seems to be the forgotten street, at least to those who don’t live on it,” said Chamber President Shawn Kiphart, owner of Take Two Game Shop. “It’s so easy to hop on the highway and head out. Probably 60-70 percent of the time that we drive out of town to shop, we don’t have to.”

Kiphart said businesses have been excited about the idea of a new Chamber, and the idea of the Celebration in particular. The Chamber is only a little over a month old, and already has 30-plus members, and several more businesses that are affiliated, but not yet paid dues. However, businesses don’t have to be a Chamber member to be a part of the Celebration Day, nor does their address need to be on Main Street to participate. They just need to purchase a spot.

Kiphart would like those who raise produce to come be part of the celebration, and other businesses/groups still have time to call as well. To join the event call (616) 773-5126.
