A Howard City teen was killed early Friday morning, July 6, after being run over by a car.

According to the Montcalm County Sheriff Office, the accident occurred on M-46 (Howard City-Edmore Rd) near Edgar Road, in Reynolds Township. Witnesses told police that Mariah Coral Kohn was lying partially in the roadway when a westbound 1997 Buick LeSabre struck and killed her. Witnesses said another vehicle had just narrowly missed striking her.

Police said that the driver of the vehicle, David John Schutter, 56, of Edmore, had not been drinking and that speed was not a factor in the crash.

Deputies are asking anyone who may have seen a pedestrian in the area of the M-46 truck stop at around 5:30 a.m. that morning to contact the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office at 989-831-7590 or the tip line at 989-831-7593.
