Teen hits motorcyclist on Main Street

A motorcyclist who was hit from behind by a pickup truck on Main Street last Friday escaped serious injury.

According to Cedar Springs Police Officer Chad Potts, the accident happened just after 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 29. A Dodge pickup, driven by a 16-year-old, failed to slow when traffic did and ran into a motorcycle on Main Street, between Maple and Elm. The impact sent the motorcyclist up in the air and caused the bike to hit the car in front of him.

The motorcyclist, Ed Sipka Jr., 40, of Cedar Springs, suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. He was wearing a helmet.

The other two drivers were not injured.

Police cited the teen who caused the accident for failing to stop in a sure clear distance.

Cedar Springs Fire and Rescue and the Kent County Sheriff Department assisted at the scene.
