Man charged with solicitation of murder from jail

A 36-year-old Schoolcraft man has been charged with solicitation of murder stemming from actions he took while incarcerated at the Montcalm County Jail.
Ronald Earl Cooper has been arraigned and could face life in prison. Cooper will remain behind bars and is being held on a $1 million bond.

The arrest resulted when detectives learned that Cooper made arrangements from his jail cell to have a 24-year-old Kalamazoo woman killed. The woman and Cooper had been in a relationship prior to his incarceration. At no time was the woman in danger.

Cooper was originally confined to the Montcalm County Jail as a lodger from Kalamazoo County.
