Boys track places third at regionals

Last Friday, the Red Hawks traveled to Houseman Field to take on 16 other Division 2 teams at their regional meet. Qualifiers for the state meet, on June 2, at Houseman Field, are based on performance standards or placing first or second in their event. Early in the meet, senior Derek Ash became the first discus thrower to be a two-time qualifier as he placed third. He qualified for the state finals by throwing 144’ 6”, which was 6” more than the qualifying mark. Later on, the 4x800m relay team of Alex Bray, Aaron Brooks, Justin Jones, and Austin Sargent qualified to the state finals by time as they finished in 8:17, one second better than the 8:18 qualifying time. During the finals, junior and state ranked distance runner, Connor Mora won the 1600m run (4:16.00) and 800m run (school record of 1:54.7). Last, senior Aaron Brooks qualified for the state finals by placing second in the race.

“We performed very well tonight. We still have young men setting personal bests in their events and they worked their tails off. June 2nd will be a very exciting day,” stated Coach Myers.

The Hawks travel to Ferrris State University on Friday for the annual Pioneer Meet.
