Cheer team ends season at regionals

WINNING DISTRICT—Cheer coaches and this year’s seniors were all smiles after winning the District competition three weeks ago. Pictured left to right is Coach Anna Ramirez, seniors Kelli Markosky, Heather Howard, and Fenessa Cotton, and Head Coach Pam Ingles.

The Cedar Springs Varsity Competitive Cheer Team traveled to Grand Rapids Christian High School February 25 to compete in the Division 2 MHSAA Regional Competition, after earning the title of District Champs. They went in with high hopes to make another trip to state, but their performance was not good enough to get into the top four. DeWitt took first with a score of 764.71, followed by Byron Center (757.41), Thornapple Kellogg (752.50) and Kenowa Hills (749.16). Cedar Springs finished ninth with a three-round total of 730.18.

Cedar Springs beat Byron Center the weekend before to take the District Championship. Overall, the Lady Hawks had a great season, taking first or second in each regular season tournament.

Three seniors will be leaving the team this year—Kelli Markosky, Heather Howard and Fennessa Cotton—and they will be missed. Howard was a member of the varsity team all four years, and competed in every round. Also, congratulations to Fenessa Cotten for becoming the newest member of Victory Cheer, a Michigan based Cheer Camp Company.

Congratulations on a good year and we look forward to what these Lady Red Hawks will accomplish next year!
