Red Hawks sack FH Eastern

It was a hot night for football last Thursday, when the Red Hawks traveled to Forest Hills Eastern to take on the Eastern Hawks, clinching their 2nd win of the season, 28-14. Cedar Springs started a little slow, not scoring in the first quarter but were able to hold Forest Hills Eastern to only one touchdown by the end of one.  The Red Hawks came back strong in the 2nd quarter with two touchdowns of their own, one when Tyler Covell’s pass to Hank Porter was completed and then again when Austin Wamser caught a pass from Covell and ran it down the field for another Cedar Springs touchdown, The defense continued to hold the against Eastern’s offense, ending the half at 14-7 Cedar.  During the 3rd quarter, the Red Hawk defense stayed strong and didn’t allow any scoring. The Red Hawk offense showed no signs of stopping either when Hank Porter ran the ball down the field for another Cedar Springs touchdown.

During the fourth quarter, Cedar Springs scored another touchdown on a run by Hank Porter, and Eastern tossed in a final touchdown to end the game, 28-14.

“It was a great win for us Friday,” said Brian Busen, Head Coach for Cedar Springs.  “Our defense played great and our offense had some big plays. We made great improvement from week 1 as a team and look to continue that into week 3.”

The Cedar Springs Red Hawks will host Flint Northwestern this Friday in a JV-Varsity doubleheader night’s game, September 9th at Red Hawk Stadium starting at 4 p.m. with the JV game and the varsity following at 7 p.m.
