According to police, a vehicle driven by an off-duty Michigan State Trooper from the Lakeview post was traveling northbound on Stage Road when it collided with two pedestrians who were pushing a moped on the east side of the road. One pedestrian, a 16-year-old boy, was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids for serious injuries, where he later died. The second pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, was transported by Life ambulance to Spectrum Health.

The male driver was not injured in the crash. The trooper will be placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
