A Gowen man was one of two people killed in a three-car crash that also left five people injured.
According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, a Dodge Caravan driven by Donovan McLaren, 36, of Gowen, was traveling north on Alden Nash in Lowell, south of Segwun Avenue, about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, August 27, when the accident occurred. A second minivan, driven by a 66-year-old Judith Elaine Christensen, of Alto, was traveling south on Alden Nash at the time of the accident. Police believe one of the minivans crossed the centerline and collided with the other, and then a third vehicle, a Dodge Stratus, that was also traveling south on Alden Nash, struck Christensen’s vehicle as the accident occurred.
Christensen was pronounced dead at the scene, and McLaren died later at the hospital after being airlifted by AeroMed.
There were four other passengers in the McLaren van. Kristen McLaren, 35, Donovan’s wife, was also airlifted by AeroMed with abdominal and leg injuries. Their three children, ages 10, 7, and 2, were also transported with serious injuries.
They were reportedly on their way back from a family reunion.
The third driver, Leesa Kay Kimble-Sees, 42, of Saranac was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident.
