An accident in Oakfield Township sent five people to the hospital Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred about 8:45 a.m. at 14 Mile (M-57) and Old 14 Mile Rd. According to the Michigan State Police, a car heading eastbound on 14 Mile was waiting to turn left on to Old 14 Mile, when a minivan, also heading eastbound, hit it from behind and pushed the car into oncoming traffic, where it hit a westbound minivan.

According to Oakfield Fire Chief Don Riker, three adults and two children were taken to the hospital as priority one patients. AeroMed was initially put on standby but was unable to fly due to the weather.

Courtland Fire and Rescue and the Kent County  Sheriff Department assisted at the scene.
