Residents gathered at cemeteries and other outposts Monday to remember those who died in the service of our country, and all those that have made our freedom possible.

The American Legion Glen Hill Post #287 held services at Elmwood, Solon, and East Nelson Cemeteries and the Cedar Springs Veterans Park. Guest speaker was Michigan 73rd District Representative Peter MacGregor. “They call what I do in Lansing public service but I doubt that I could’ve done what these [service men and women] have done,” he said. “Nothing comes close to conveying my gratitude for their service.” MacGregor shared a letter written by his grandfather to one of his two uncles serving during World War II, and was often emotional while reading it.
Also on hand for the service was the American Legion Honor Guard, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion and the Boy Scouts.
Services were also held in Algoma Township, Sand Lake, and Sparta.
