Creative Technologies Academy will kick off its FlexTrac High School in September, 2011. CTA’s FlexTrac will incorporate at least two of the recommendations made to Governor Snyder and the Legislature by the State Board of Education in February of this year:
1. Support for every student being able to accelerate at his/her own pace and realize early – post secondary learning opportunities, and better plan for and realize post-secondary credentials.
2. Increased access to quality distance and blended learning options.
CTA will implement an afternoon online learning lab for the 2011-12 school year during hours outside of the traditional school day with the following features:
• FlexTrac is computer-based and self-paced. Students who have the most success with this program exhibit good attendance and self motivation.
• FlexTrac allows students the flexibility needed to work at an approved job or community resource class during the day and still earn academic credits by attending afternoon/evening courses.
• FlexTrac is composed of highly interactive and graphic-rich PLATO Learning Software. The classes are standards-based with an interactive curriculum and integrated assessment. Individualized instruction offers flexibility for students to work at their own pace with teacher assistance and to take pre-assessments before beginning a class, so they are placed at the appropriate course skill levels.
• The unique FlexTrac format allows students to test out of course material that they have already mastered.
• A certified teacher will oversee the FlexTrac High School in the CTA high school computer lab.
• Flexible schedule (e.g. students could take a combination of teacher-led high school classes and onlinel classes – a benefit for those who prefer attending school later in the day.)
• The program is flexible enough to assist:
-Students who are accelerated learners.
-Students who are non-traditional learners.
-Students who have jobs during the traditional school day.
-Students who are behind in credits but show a renewed sense of purpose.
Enrollment is limited and admission requires an application and parent interview with the School Leader and the Director of Student Services.
