Cedar Springs Red Hawk Wrestlers place First at Belding Tournament

The Red Hawks took to the road on January 5 to go head to head against Comstock Park.
The Hawks started out with a win in the 285 lb weight class earning a pin in the first period to put the initial points on the board for Cedar Springs. The next three rounds were in favor of Comstock Park.  The Red Hawks earned points and a pin in the 125 & 130 lb classes, respectively, bringing the score to 15-17.
Cedar continued to fight hard, but struggled to put points on the board.  A battle in the 140 lb class found its opponents in overtime, but a Panther takedown ended the match. A tough match at the 152 lb level and a major win at 171lb were not enough to dominate Comstock Park who won the meet with a score of 53-19.
Red Hawks dominate Belding tournament
On Saturday, January 8, the Red Hawk wrestlers brought home the first place trophy from the Belding Team Tournament. Cedar Springs began the day in a duel with a 70-12 win over Grand Rapids Christian. Cedar beat Belding 60-24.  The Hawks were on a roll shutting out Hudsonville 69-12 and Ottawa Hills 82-0.  As Cedar moved into their final round of the day, Caledonia couldn’t handle the Hawk pressure and fell 62-12.
