It was another great game last week when the Cedar Springs Lady Red Hawks basketball team took down Forest Hills Eastern 48-28.
“The girls played with great energy tonight,” said assistant coach Chad Wight. “The athleticism of this year’s team allows us to play at a fast pace and, hopefully, wear some teams down.”
Their five starters–Chaya Coxon, Molly Holtrop, Hannah Wight, Tiffany Karger, and Rachael Ludtke—played most of the game. “They were very effective as a unit in the press, which allowed us to win the turnover battle,” explained Wight.
Wight said that the team shot 88 percent from the free throw line. “That kind of thing helps put the game well out of your opponents reach.”
He also said that they are getting better at communicating defensively and in transition. “It’s critical to have vocal leaders on the floor,” noted Wight.
“Our starting squad is young (2 Sophmores and 3 Juniors),” he added. “But this has been a good start for us as a team. The girls are having fun, and everyone is taking on their role rather well. They’re a great group to coach.”
