Super spook~tacular

Mario (Joey Priolo) made an appearance at the trunk-or-treat at the Springs Church Sunday.

The turnout for the City of Cedar Springs’ annual Halloween Spook~tacular last Sunday, October 31, was nothing short of—well—spectacular.

“It was amazing,” said Cedar Springs City Manager Christine Burns.

During the event, which ran from 6-7 p.m., 30 businesses, churches and government entities banned together to hand out candy and/or distribute prizes. Burns said they made up 250 game boards to be stamped, and all were used except for eight. However, there many more that trick or treated without taking part in the prize drawing. Some estimated at least 1,000 kids hit the street Sunday.

The Cedar Springs Fire Department, Police Reserves, and Kent County Traffic Squad handed out candy, cider and donuts at the fire station on Halloween.

There was a steady stream of kids and parents up and down Main Street, and through the three area church events. There was an additional 30 cars at the Springs Church handing out candy for trunk or treat, and they said it was the most trick or treaters they had ever seen. Calvary Assembly of God’s carnival on the corner across the street from the Kent Theatre was a new addition, and was a big hit as well.
