A Grand Rapids man charged with the arson of a Sand Lake building last March pled guilty this week to a lesser charge.
Gerald Lee Krug, 48, was charged with arson—preparation to burn property over $20,000 in the building fire at 20 W. Lake Street in Sand Lake on March 14. According to Sand Lake Police Chief Ken Williams, two Sand Lake officers were on foot patrol about 3 a.m. when they noticed the fire through the back window of the vacant building and saw the man leaving the scene. One officer apprehended the suspect while the other successfully extinguished the fire.
Krug pled guilty Monday to a lesser charge of arson-preparation to burn property over $200 but under $1,000, which is a misdemeanor. Sentencing has been set for December 16 at 1:30 p.m.
