Girls cross country back-to-back regional champs

On Saturday, October 30, the girls cross country team traveled to Benzie High School to compete in the Divison 2 Regional Championships.  Coming off their conference title, the girls were ready to go after a back-to-back regional title. The girls ran hard to win the regional title, for the second year in a row, by 17 points ahead of Gaylord. The girls will now travel as a team on Saturday to MIS Speedway, in Jackson, to compete in the Division 2 state finals. Last year they finished 9th and are hoping to improve on that place.

Leading the way for the Red Hawks was Katie Weiler, who finished 2nd overall with a time of 18:49. Amanda Balczak ran her best time of the season with a 19:17 to finish 5th. Jessica Titus and Sommer VanDyke also ran personal bests for the season running 20:14 (20th place) and 20:20 (21st place). Freshman Michaela Burnett was Cedar’s 5th runner, crushing her best time running a 20:42 (33rd place). Kayla Ovokaitys and Madi Phelps rounded out the team running great times of 21:26 and 21:48 to finish 48th and 61st. A great job to the girls and to their coach on a great honor! Good luck at the state meet!
