City breaks ground for staging area

By Judy Reed

groundbreakingThe staging area for the White Pine Trail at Second and W. Maple Streets came closer to reality last Friday, October 9, when the city of Cedar Springs held a ceremonial groundbreaking before construction starts.

Construction was slated to begin this week, and scheduled to be complete by the first weekend in November, when Friends of the White Pine Trail will be leading a tour through the area. The exception will be the bathrooms, which will be completed in the spring.

The gazebo, which will be dedicated to Clara Gust, will be an Eagle Scout project headed up by Charlie Nelson, son of Ginger and Charlie Nelson of Nelson Township.

The city expects to have a ribbon cutting on the completed area the second weekend in November, earlier if the weather stays good and construction finishes early.
