Thomas E. Bliss

Thomas E. Bliss, 88 of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus following a brief illness. Tom was born November 4, 1921 in Caseville, MI the son of Frank and Anna (Knaus) Bliss. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a funeral director owning and operating Bliss Funeral Home in Cedar Springs from 1954-1981. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (Seeley) whom he married on October 13, 1945; 3 children, Patrick J. Bliss of Las Vegas, NV; MaryAnn (Ted) DeVries of Kalamazoo, Peggy Helsel of Rockford; 2 grandchildren, Brenna Helsel and Eric DeVries; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, John, Leo and James; 2 sisters, Mary Boudeman and Elizabeth Bliss. The family received friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, www.blisswitterspike.com  where a Scripture Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 11:00 am at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Joseph W. Kenshol celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sand Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice, 100 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 or the charity of donor’s choice.
