Pregnant woman dies in crash

A Howard City woman was killed in a car accident Monday afternoon when she failed to stop at a stop sign at M-46 and Youngman Road.
According to the Michigan State Police Post in Lakeview, the accident occurred on Monday, October 4, at 2:45 p.m. in Cato Township. They said that Rebecca Hunt, 34, of Howard City, was traveling southbound on Youngman Road and failed to yield to a westbound vehicle on M-46. She was struck by the westbound vehicle, who was unable to stop.
Hunt, who was pregnant, was taken to Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview, where she was pronounced dead. Her two daughters, ages three and four, were also in the vehicle in their car seats, and were flown by AeroMed to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The driver of the other vehicle went to Kelsey Hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lakeview Police Department, EMS, and the Lakeview Fire Department. The crash is still under investigation.
