Artprize voter registration is now open

ArtPrize visitors can register online now but must activate their accounts in person

Voter registration for ArtPrize 2010 is now open to the public. To register to vote before ArtPrize opens to the public on Sept. 22, visitors can go online at artprize.org to register.  Once registered, the account must still be activated in person at one of ten locations in the three-square-mile ArtPrize district, including the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.

Voters are able to register and activate their accounts in person beginning Sept. 22 at any of the ten locations. The registration/activation locations in the ArtPrize district include: the Grand Raids Art Museum, Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts, Diocese of Grand Rapids’ Cathedral Square, Grand Rapids Public Museum, Grand Valley State University Pew Campus, Women’s City Club, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Grand Rapids Public Library-Main and The Hub.

To register, whether online or in person, each voter needs to have a unique e-mail address.  Activating the account must be in person. When activating the account, valid government identification must be presented. The ID can be a driver’s license, state ID or passport.

Voting during week one of ArtPrize 2010 begins Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 29.  Voters can vote up or down for any of the 1,713 artists. One vote is allowed for each work of art. Voting results will continually be posted online at artprize.org.  The top 10 finalists will be announced Sept. 30.

Voting during week two begins after the top-10 announcement.  Voters can cast only one vote for one of the 10 finalists. Votes can be changed until the close of voting on October 6 at 11:59 p.m. In week two, voting results will not be posted online. The winners will be announced October 7.

During last year’s event more than 200,000 people visited ArtPrize and 37,264 guests registered to vote.  There were 334,219 votes cast during the 15 days of voting.

ArtPrize 2010 begins Sept. 22 and runs through Oct. 10.  Information about ArtPrize and scheduled events can be found at artprize.org.
