Red Hawks drop one to FHE

What a difference a week makes in a football season. After a resounding defeat of Tri County in week one, the Cedar Springs varsity football team faced a more physical and experienced Forest Hills Eastern team last Thursday, September 2, which resulted in a 35-7 loss. Whether it was a lack of preparation or uninspired play, the Red Hawk team that showed up last Thursday night was not the same as the one from the previous week. Turnovers, penalties, and mental mistakes allowed Eastern to jump out to a 14-0 first quarter and 28-0 half time lead.

The start of the second half seemed to be a replay of the first with Eastern expanding its lead to 35-0 and the rout was on. With multiple substitutions on both sides, the Red Hawks did manage to score on a 30 yard run by Zack Carpentier to finish out the scoring at 35-7. Though there were not very many highlights in this dismally played game by Cedar, AJ Olszeweski did have two impressive kick-off returns while Dan Sagorski and Joe Simon were stout at defensive tackle.

The Red Hawks will attempt to redeem themselves this coming week as they travel across the state to take on Flint Northwestern Academy. The next home game is September 17 against conference rival Coopersville.
